Job: Maintenance Planner & Scheduler

As a Maintenance Planner and Scheduler, you will demonstrate your understanding of purchasing policies and 7/24 maintenance requirements as you develop, maintain and monitor programs and systems such as CMMS or WMS, including Hansen and Avantis, with a focus on operational efficiency and optimization. This will entail planning, scheduling and coordinating both planned and corrective maintenance activities, conducting field inspections, providing training to staff, assisting engineers and other management staff with related technical work, and more.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Your primary responsibilities as a Maintenance Planner & Scheduler will be varied. Specifically, you will:
• Develop, maintain, and monitor programs and systems such as CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management System) or WMS (Work Management Systems), including Hansen and Avantis.
• Plan, schedule and coordinate all maintenance activities, both planned and corrective work.
• Develop work plans for maintenance (PM, PdM and Corrective work) with necessary information to allow efficient scheduling, assigning and execution of maintenance work.
• Perform purchasing duties, as required, with a full understanding of purchasing policies and 7/24 requirements for maintenance.
• Stage materials, as required.
• Evaluate job feedback to improve future planned work.
• Prioritize work requests and work orders.
• Calculate planned work, based on open work with priorities, and forecasted available labour hours and materials for future work that is planned prior to actual work completion.
• Prepare training course materials and conduct training and demonstrations for users of CMMS / WMS concepts, and provide training and work direction to staff.
• Conduct investigations and studies for a variety of maintenance programs and projects pertaining to the City’s facilities and infrastructure, and make recommendations on findings.
• Administer, prepare and coordinate requirements and review reports, specifications and documentation related to maintenance activities.
• Conduct field inspections and assessments, and evaluate the condition of facilities and assets, including root cause analysis.
• Assist engineers and other management staff in carrying out technical work for the planning, scheduling, design, tendering, construction, inspection and maintenance of municipal infrastructure.
• Assist with budget preparation and tracking of expenditures.
• Prepare drafts of documents, contracts, specifications and agreements for the engineers, supervisors and managers.
• Program, operate and maintain a variety of mechanical, digital, analogue, wireless, computerized and other equipment and systems, and provide training to staff in maintenance activities, calculations, diagnostics, repairs, studies, etc.
• Conduct quality assurance data integrity checks and produce reports based on findings.
• Perform and/or monitor tests, analyze results and make recommendations.
• Perform and/or review research and calculations, and analyze technical data.
• Prepare, read and interpret technical drawings.
KEY QUALIFICATIONS

Your application for the role of Maintenance Planner and Scheduler must describe your qualifications as they relate to:
• Extensive experience in the engineering maintenance field, including experience related to reliability in a complex process facility.
• Graduation from a Mechanical or Electrical Technologist Program, PEMAC MMP (Plant Engineering Maintenance Association of Canada - Maintenance Management Program) Certification, or an approved equivalent combination of education and practical experience related to Planning and Scheduling and a Millwright or Electrician Trade.
• Considerable experience with maintenance principles, practices, concepts and options, including all areas within maintenance planning, scheduling, coordination and optimization.
• Experience utilizing a variety of computer software programs, including MS Office (advanced level of Excel), MS Project, and CMMS / WMS (Computerized Maintenance Management Systems / Work Management Systems) in an equipment heavy process environment.
• Possession of, and ability to maintain, a valid Province of Ontario Class G driver’s licence, ability to qualify for the City’s equipment operating permits and requirements, and, as required, have daily access to a personal vehicle.
You must also have:
• Advanced knowledge of the collection, evaluation and analysis of field data related to maintenance management, facility processes and infrastructure.
• Knowledge of government legislation in the area of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and its regulations.
• Knowledge of manual and computerized mathematical calculations used in engineering analysis.
• Ability to understand engineering administration processes related to inventory control, procurement and other purchasing procedures, including tendering and administration of requests, etc.
• Knowledge of, and ability to utilize, Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS), including the set-up of user definable software for end-user use in the areas of maintenance, procurement and inventory control.
• Excellent analytical skills with the ability to recommend solutions.
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and plans.
• Ability to provide work direction to other staff.
• Ability to plan, prioritize, organize and carry out work with minimal supervision.
• Ability to answer questions from the public and converse verbally and in writing with engineering staff and others on technical issues.
• Advanced problem-solving and project coordination skills and the ability to exercise independent judgement in dealing with technical matters.

Wage Range: $36.85 - $40.37 per hour
