Job: Mechanical Engineering Consultant - DUPONT CO - Delaware - Wilmington

We have an exciting opportunity in Process Equipment Group in Wilmington, DE for a Process Equipment Pipe Consultant to work in the corporate Engineering function that supports DuPont operating plants and capital projects to ensure a reliable piping system.

An ideal candidate’s responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Front-end-loading of Capital project with conceptual piping system design
  • Identify critical lines, perform pipe stress analysis, and recommend with appropriate pipe supports for ASME B31 code compliance
  • Assist in plant safe operation with improved asset productivity, increased up-time, and reduced maintenance effort through piping mechanical integrity and quality assurance (MIQA) and piping fitness-for-service (FFS) programs
  • Piping walk down at plant site for trouble shooting and failure investigation
  • Develop and implement advanced tools, techniques, and best practices for improving piping system reliability for DuPont competitive advantage
  • Provide project and operating plant support by generating and revising piping and valve specifications.
  • Analyze piping and valve problems and recommending solutions.
  • Identify and promote best practices (including industry standards) for selecting piping and valves.
  • Work with DuPont Sourcing to develop, maintain, and promote company-wide purchasing strategies for pipe, valves, and fittings
  • Occasionally assess equipment valve manufacturer’s engineering and quality programs
  • Lead and coordinate corporate-wide teams and projects.
  • Work with other consultants, plant and business personnel, sourcing, suppliers, and contractors.

Qualifications

  • BS or MS in Mechanical Engineering Degree
  • 10 years of experience including five years of plant field experience in project construction, operations or maintenance of process equipment and five years in pipe stress analysis work
  • General knowledge of process piping typically used in chemical, polymer, food, and biological processes.
  • Knowledge of industry standards (ASME & API) for pipe, valves, and fittings related to piping design, inspection and maintenance.
  • Great time management skills including the ability to manage a substantial work load.
  • Knowledge of static and dynamic pipe stress analysis
  • Knowledge and/or proficiency in using CAESAR II and FE-PIPE software
  • Interpret Codes and regulations applicable to power and process piping
  • Capability to apply mechanical integrity (MI) and fitness-for-service assessment of the piping system.
  • Great time management skills including the ability to manage a substantial work load.
  • Interpersonal skills for developing a client base and working in a multi-function team environment.
  • Networking capability to effectively leverage other corporate and external resources to provide timely cost effective solutions.
  • Computer and PC literate-Working knowledge of using E-mail, the Internet, and Microsoft Office products (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Must be self-motivated and able to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Good oral and written communication skills necessary to sell integrated engineering solutions.

Exciting Project based travel ranging from 25% - 50%

A professional engineering license, six sigma training, demonstrated leadership skills through involvement in technical societies, and multi-lingual capability are a definite plus.

This position will be a full time assignment.  Flexible work schedules, adjustable work hours, and other accepted work practices could be utilized to accommodate special needs or circumstances.
