To meet this requirement, the Trainer’s role is to develop and deliver training or co-ordinate instructors to deliver training courses to AltaLink staff and contractor personnel. The demand on this role has significantly increased due to the high volume of projects and the need to ensure the personnel working on behalf of AltaLink are competent in their role.

To meet this requirement, the Trainer’s role is to develop and deliver training or co-ordinate instructors to deliver training courses to AltaLink staff and contractor personnel. The demand on this role has significantly increased due to the high volume of projects and the need to ensure the personnel working on behalf of AltaLink are competent in their role.
The Trainer will also work as one of AltaLink’s Level Two Electrical Safety Code Officers as part of the commitment to maintain AltaLink’s Accredited Corporation status.
Responsibilities
- Manage Training Programs - Conduct needs analysis; write objectives; obtain sign off; design courses and delivery methods for target audiences; ensure all internal and external regulatory requirements are met; course set up and delivery; evaluation for effectiveness and quality; continuous improvement; update and maintain participant records; work closely with the safety advisors on the development and delivery of safety related training.
- Maintain Existing Courses - Review and update course manuals and materials to ensure regulatory requirements are met; continue to improve or enhance delivery methods and techniques; monitor and evaluate external instructors to ensure quality, and consistency.
- Assess Safety and Technical Competencies - Conduct competency evaluation courses; execute on site evaluations; audit external training; be a subject matter expert for contractors and field personal; coach others.
- Develop Relationships - Work closely with managers and field personnel; Fortis Alberta; Contractors; External instructors; External training coordinators and supervisors; Safety advisor incident investigations.
- Safety Codes - Follow safety code requirements as laid out in AltaLink’s Quality management process; conduct safety code audits; liaise with Electrical Technical Council and Municipal Affairs; coach others.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 7 years experience in an electrical trades function.
- Electrical Trades Certificate (Power line Technician, Electrician or Power System Electrician) designation.
- Certification in Adult Continuing Education (CACE)
- Level Two Electrical Safety Codes Officer or ability to obtain.
- Must be recognized as a knowledge expert with critical electrical systems. Also requires sufficient technical working knowledge of all electrical utility disciplines.
- Proven track record of good attendance.
