Definition: Indoor Air Quality

June 13, 2012
(Green Reliability)

A measure of indoor pollution from sources that release gases or particles into the air. Inadequate ventilation can increase indoor pollutant levels by not bringing in enough outdoor air to dilute emissions from indoor sources and by not carrying indoor air pollutants out from the building or facility. High temperature and humidity levels can aslo increase concentrations of some pollutants.

There are three basic strategies to improve indoor air quality:

1. Source control
2. Improve ventilation
3. Install air cleaners or filters
