Definition: Shewhart Cycle

A four-step process for quality improvement.

1. Plan - aplan to effect improvement is developed
2. Do - the plan is carried out, preferably on a small scale
3. Check - the effects of the plan are observed
4. Act - the results are studied to determine what was learned and what can be predicted

Synonymous with Plan-Do-Check-Act (PDCA) cycle.
