About the Author - Peter Horsburgh

Peter Horsburgh is known as a charismatic and enthusiastic expert in the field of reliability engineering. Peter and reliability were a match made in heaven. His fifteen years of experience started with a high distinction honor on his initial university published reliability paper and has since built to some of the most complex reliability models ever created. One university professor who viewed his work suggested that Peter should be teaching him!

Peter started off as a mechanical engineer and credits his electrical experience for being able to converse with technical staff and craftspeople alike. He has a Master’s of Business Administration (MBA), but is just as comfortable pitching in the boardroom about the importance of getting reliability right.

His storytelling skills and ability to engage people from various skill backgrounds have led to him becoming a highly sought-after consultant. He knows how to bring out the best in people and can also see things from decision makers’ viewpoints because he’s been there himself.

Peter has engaged people on everything from planning and scheduling, root cause analysis and defect elimination, plant strategy implementation, and condition monitoring. He’s spoken at international and national reliability conventions and meetings, is a regular contributor to the Industrial Maintenance Roundtable, and was a founding member of the association in New South Wales, Australia.

Peter is married with three children. He lives in the Hunter Valley region of New South Wales, Australia. He is the son of a blacksmith and has had a hammer in his hand ever since he can remember. At the age of fifteen, he started to learn to fly and could pilot a plane solo before he could legally drive a car without supervision. In 2016, Peter was the overall champion of the Australian Light Aircraft Championships.

With a motto of, “The pain you feel now is your success calling,” Peter is prepared to ask the difficult questions in order to discover what’s holding back success.
