ROLLING STOCK AND SHOPS MAINTENANCE SUPERINTENDENT

The San Francisco Bay Area Rapid Transit District (BART) is pleased to announce the recruitment of a Rolling Stock and Shops Maintenance Superintendent for the Rolling Stock & Shops (RS&S) Department. Under the direction of the Assistant Chief Mechanical Officer or the Group Manager of Rolling Stock and Shops, the RS&S Maintenance Superintendent will be primarily responsible for managing and directing operations of an assigned rolling stock maintenance primary shop, secondary shop or the Vehicle Trouble Desk. The primary shops conduct rail car maintenance and modifications, such as: a) preventative and corrective maintenance; b) fleet modifications and overhauls; c) accident repairs; d) other necessary maintenance repairs and inspections. Primary shops are located in Concord, Richmond, Hayward, and Daly City. The secondary shop, located in Hayward, provides repairs of the rail vehicle components and parts. The Vehicle Trouble Desk, located at Lake Merritt Station, troubleshoots and mitigates rail car malfunctions and service delays while the rail cars are on mainline. The RS&S Maintenance Superintendent will also be responsible for coordinating assigned activities with other divisions, departments, and outside agencies; providing highly responsible and complex administrative support to the Assistant Chief Mechanical Officer or the Group Manager of Rolling Stock and Shops; and performs related duties as assigned.

Incumbent will be required to have 24 hours, 7 days per week on-call responsibility for revenue vehicle and shop problems.

ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT

Rolling Stock & Shops, an ISO 9001 2015 certified department of $138M+ operating budget and 826 FTE, is responsible for all engineering, maintenance and operations support functions for BART rail car fleet. Over the next several years, RS&S will grow as it continues to receive and test new, next generation rail cars, opens the state-of-the-art Hayward Maintenance Complex, and matures its reliability-centered maintenance processes as part of its innovative Strategic Maintenance Program, all while meeting demanding car availability goals for the existing service plan to increase commuter convenience.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION: A Bachelor’s degree in business administration, or a closely related field from an accredited college or university. Additional experience as outlined may be substituted for the education on a year-for-year basis. A college degree is preferred.

EXPERIENCE: Five years of (full-time equivalent) verifiable experience in preventive maintenance, inspection, and repair of fixed rail transit vehicles. At least two years must have included administrative and supervisory experience.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS: • Must possess a valid California driver’s license and have a satisfactory driving record; The successful candidate will have the following education/skills/experience beyond the minimum qualifications: • Knowledge of operations, principles, and activities of comprehensive rail vehicle maintenance programs; • Principles and practices of comprehensive rail vehicle asset management programs; • Establishing and maintaining internal and external partnerships; • Successfully coordinating with employees within a number of labor unions; • Excellent communication skills, including the ability to make clear presentations, produce concise technical and administrative reports, and explain complex/technical issues to BART management and leaders; • Expertise in Maximo or similar computerized maintenance and materials management system; • Familiarity with full life cycle maintenance practices for heavy rail transit vehicles and their components.
