Shop Scheduler - Oakland, CA

The San Francisco Bay Area Rapid Transit District (BART) is pleased to announce the recruitment of a Shop Scheduler for the Rolling Stock & Shops (RS&S) Department. Under the supervision of the Scheduling Supervisor and Shop Manager, the Shop Scheduler tracks documents and analyzes all scheduled and unscheduled revenue vehicle maintenance activity and documentation, including the scheduling of daily shop workload for preventive maintenance and of modifications to revenue vehicles. The person selected for this position will also be responsible for coordinating work and parts availability with other divisions and departments; tracking work performed by car and component number, date and function codes; inputting and reviewing completed work orders in the current asset management system MAXIMO; and other duties as assigned.

The Shop Scheduler will utilize skills in organizing, forecasting and planning using legacy, current and future (New) software applications; researching databases to ensure data integrity; updating and reconciling BART’s legacy system of Configuration Management System (CMS) with MAXIMO, the new system asset management system, and new FOTF (Fleet of the Future) equipment.

Rolling Stock & Shops (RS&S), an ISO 9001:2015 certified department of $138M+ operating budget and 826 FTE, is responsible for all engineering, maintenance and operations support functions for BART rail car fleet. Over the next several years, RS&S will grow as it continues to receive and test new, next generation rail cars, opens the state-of-the-art Hayward Maintenance Complex, and matures its reliability-centered maintenance processes as part of its innovative Strategic Maintenance Program, all while meeting demanding car availability goals for the existing service plan to increase commuter convenience.

EDUCATION: Possession of a High School diploma, GED or recognized equivalent.

Please Note: Applicants with transcripts from outside the United States or its territories must have their transcripts evaluated by an academic accrediting service.

EXPERIENCE: Three (3) years of (full-time equivalent) technical experience related to revenue vehicle maintenance either as a transit vehicle mechanic, or electronic technician, or shop foreworker or vehicle inspector.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Must possess a valid California driver’s license and have a satisfactory driving record. Must be physically able to lift up to 25 pounds.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate the following criteria beyond the minimum qualifications:

KNOWLEDGE OF: • Techniques for scheduling preventive maintenance and modifications, and integrating unscheduled with scheduled repair work. • Maintenance requirements, terminology, components, parts and operation of revenue vehicle and operating systems. • Maintenance practices and procedures, modification practices and procedures, parts lists, schematics, manuals and other documents governing revenue vehicle maintenance and modification.

SKILL IN: • Systems, procedures and codes for tracking and reporting serial numbers, labor hours and failure causes. • Working independently and exercising sound judgment in making decisions regarding scheduling of shop work. • Analyzing and scheduling daily workload in accordance with overall assigned priorities. • Reviewing and assembling maintenance packages to include all required procedures, time control specifications and related. • Analyzing discrepancy and correction reports and determining causes of component/revenue vehicle failures. • Determining parts and materials required and coordinating availability with shop and other materials management personnel. • Coding, categorizing, inputting, and reporting maintenance activity. • Operating standard office equipment including personal or online computer. • Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of the work.
