1. Always remove the ultrasonic detector from the carrying case and leave the case in the office when possible. Perform active scanning on your way out to a job may reveal anomalies that could waste energy, cause shut downs or reduce production.
2. Never start your ultrasound air leak survey with the volume or sensitivity too high or too low. You may mask or miss leaks.
3. When using two or more instruments of the same model, compare readings for repeatability and accuracy. It DOES matter.
4. Be familiar with the sounds of corona, arcing and tracking before scanning cabinets or electrical apparatus.
5. When performing acoustic lubrication on motor bearings in extreme cold weather be sure to allow grease to liquefy before listening to bearings.
