Day & Zimmermann Awarded Contract for Completion of Nation’s First New Nuclear Plant in 20 Years

LANCASTER, PA - September 14, 2009 ... Day & Zimmermann NPS, the nation’s leading power plant maintenance and modifications contractor, announced today that it has been awarded a $50 million dollar contract by the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA). Under this contract, Day & Zimmermann NPS (DZNPS) will provide services to assist in the completion of TVA’s Watts Bar Unit 2 Nuclear Plant in Spring City, TN. DZNPS will be providing managed task, maintenance and modification, and refurbishment services in support of TVA and their partners. This effort will consist of the replacement, refurbishment, modification, and installation of major plant components by performing mechanical, electrical and civil work primarily in the plant’s Turbine Building and other areas.

The TVA board decided in August 2007 to complete Unit 2 of the Watts Bar plant to help meet the Tennessee Valley’s growing demand for power. Completion of the plant is expected by 2012, which will mark the first completed new nuclear construction in two decades. When completed and operational, the plant will generate 1,177 megawatts of electric power and is expected to result in the creation of 250 permanent jobs and the use of 2,300 contract workers during construction.

DZNPS has been a strategic Alliance Partner of TVA since 1995, performing full-service plant maintenance and modifications at TVA’s fossil power plants in the western part of the Tennessee Valley. Since the inception of the Alliance, DZNPS has safely performed over 25 million hours of maintenance and modification services in TVA’s fleet.
