As a mainline facilities management business formed from client employees homogenized with external hires, our building engineering teams directly supporting clients were substantially siloed, working independently of one another and of central engineering support functions, including Reliability. Recognizing the inefficiency this caused to maintenance and asset management, we formed an initiative in 2022 to build a Community of Practice among these building engineers to establish a large, team mindset and understand issues they faced.
The outcome of this community was the successful establishment of new Project Engineering and Account Engineering roles to support the Building Engineering team, allowing them to focus on occupant client issues as the new roles relieved them of other engineering burdens.
