According to the IEEE Large Motor Reliability Study, the Age and Moisture categories were the top observable conditions in failed motor windings. Moisture can be an overnight change, but age requires time and if we're not paying attention can sneak up on us. A one-time test may show a key performance indicator just inside the limit and one might take no action. However, a trend of the same indicator would show a significant change and action could be taken.
