Do or do not – there is no try ~ Yoda
Are you one of those people who will not start a project until planning is close to perfect?
The Uptime Elements Black Belt program is designed to acknowledge action-oriented projects that reflect the holistic approach to reliability. These projects are not designed as multi-year Mega-Projects as we know those have a 70% failure rate.
In the Reliability Leadership Institute Community of Practice we focus on small actions done on a scheduled and consistent basis. We use 3 Month Orbits to launch small single focus projects with a 90-day completion goal.
The basic steps include:
- Selecting Goal One (what is the most important thing you can do to contribute to the organization objectives that you can complete in the next 3 months)
- Write down how Goal One aligns to your organizational objectives
- Create 2 Leading Indicators that predict the goal and that you have direct influence over
- Create 1 Lagging Indicator related to Goal One
- Create a FUN, simple and highly visible scorecard
- Wire down the steps you will need to take to achieve Goal One
Every member in the Reliability Leadership Institute Community of Practice is expected to complete four 3-Month Obits each year. If they manage a team – they are encouraged to enlist their individual team members to do the same. One member who leads a motivated team of Certified Reliability Leaders has completed over one hundred 3 Month orbits in the past year alone.
An Uptime Elements Black Belt can be earned by any Certified Reliability Leader who submits 5 Uptime Elements Black Belt projects; one for each Uptime Element Knowledge Domain including:
- Reliability Engineering for Maintenance
- Asset Condition Management
- Work Execution Management
- Leadership for Reliability
- Asset Management
While you are busy planning to be perfect, these motivated reliability leaders are busy moving the reliability needle in their organization – one small project at a time.
