Industrial Internet Consortium and Plattform Industrie 4.0 Drive Digital Transformation Forward

WALLDORF/ST. LEON-ROT, GERMANY – September 22, 2016

Yesterday, more than 300 manufacturing, communications, and technology experts met at SAP headquarters for the second working meeting of the Industrial Internet Consortium® (IIC) and Plattform Industrie 4.0. The two organizations are driving digital transformation and pooling their expertise in close cooperation. The partners want to ensure compatibility between their reference architecture models and facilitate access for companies to test environments.

“The Plattform Industrie 4.0 has already achieved major milestones," explains Henning Banthien, secretary general of Plattform Industrie 4.0. “We developed the internationally recognized reference architecture model industry 4.0, harmonized standardization processes by the Standardization Council I4.0 and collected 250 examples of industry 4.0 applications. These examples are an important guide for medium-sized companies in the realization of their ideas. Together with our strong partner, the Industrial Internet Consortium, we want to create an ideal environment for user testing and ensure international interoperability of our systems.”

Dr. Richard Soley, Executive Director, IIC, said, “The Industrial Internet Consortium is becoming a hub of international efforts, accelerating the adoption of IoT technology in many industries, including healthcare, transportation, energy, manufacturing, and even government services. Our first and still strongest collaboration is with Plattform Industrie 4.0, an exceptional group of people and companies that have done yeoman's work in the area. We are collaborating in many areas including architecture, interoperability and security and even exploring collaboration on testbed development and evaluation.”

SAP and Bosch, which are active in the IIC and the Plattform Industry 4.0, welcomed the participants during yesterday's meeting as hosts.
