Implementing integrated management systems brings significant value to organizations, beyond what would have otherwise been achieved by implementing each system (asset management, safety management, quality management, etc.) independently. By focusing implementation and improvement efforts in the areas common to all systems, the organization is able to build maturity and capability more quickly and efficiently. Coordinating implementation also eases change fatigue within the organization, which is being asked to change the way it thinks and does business.
At Sound Transit, we have embarked on a journey to develop our Safety and Asset Management Systems using quality management principles, leveraging the path laid by the agency's certified Environmental Sustainability Management System.
