New 3M Tape Tackles High Temperature Applications

3M™ VHB™ Tape GPH series is designed to withstand the high temperatures found in powder coating, liquid paint processes and more.

St. Paul, Minn. -- June 4, 2018

Since 1980, 3M™ VHB™ Tapes have opened the door to faster and easier assemblies. Now, the new GPH series from 3M combines the extreme bonding power and convenience of 3M VHB Tapes with high temperature resistance. It can withstand operating temperatures up to 450 degrees Fahrenheit, with long-term durability in conditions up to 300 degrees. Users will experience excellent adhesion to high and medium surface energy materials, as well as coated or painted surfaces.

3M™ VHB™ Tape GPH is a permanent bonding solution that uses a durable acrylic adhesive and an acrylic foam core, maintaining strength and conformability even at extreme temperatures. 3M VHB Tapes, including the new GPH series, replace traditional mechanical fasteners, subsequently eliminating processes like drilling, grinding, refinishing, screwing, welding and associated rework/clean-up.

“At 3M, we know ease of use and speed of assembly are critical in today’s manufacturing environment. With the GPH series, we now offer manufacturers the speed and flexibility of 3M VHB Tape with a solution that works at temperatures commonly used in powder coat or liquid paint processes,” said Kevin Schwab, 3M US Marketing Manager. “The pre-paint assembly offered by the GPH series can streamline our customer’s assemblies by eliminating process steps after the paint over, potentially increasing throughput and reducing manufacturing steps.”

“We engineered this tape with several distinctive benefits,” said Brent Bystrom, 3M Application Engineer. “Like all 3M VHB Tapes, its unique closed-cell construction allows both bonding and sealing, and its bonding strength promotes the use of thinner, lighter and dissimilar materials”.

When the heat is on, stay strong with the 3M VHB Tape GPH series. No screws, rivets or welding necessary.
