Duty standby involves the strategic rotation of equipment to ensure operational continuity. The recurring nature of the rotation is effective at ‘fault finding’ and has become an independent check on our work processes, uncovering issues that have fallen through the cracks. Managing this low-tech approach has identified misses in our operating and maintenance procedures, as well as material handling processes. It has allowed for optimization in planning and scheduling, improving operator skill levels, and streamlining predictive maintenance programs. The Duty Standby strategy enables a culture of informed decision making; KNOWING the condition of the equipment allows for an accurate assessment of the operating risk of the system. We will show MEG Energy's journey from the perspective of an owner/operator, from inception and building the cultural buy-in to where we are today.
