Emerson Process Management has successfully completed a DeltaV SIS burner management system migration project in Sasol’s integrated chemical plant in Sasolburg, South Africa.
The RS5 sensor is a smarter, faster, and highly accurate sensor for the mid-range shaft alignment market segment. Its XL HD detector, combined with the powerful InfiniRange functionality makes its measurement range virtually unlimited, even over long spans of 10m (33 ft.).
The International Society of Automation (ISA) and its Premier Strategic Partner for calibration, Beamex, will co-host a free web seminar on 2 October 2014 that will discuss the fundamentals of pressure instrumentation as well as some of the appropriate methods for calibration.
When moving machines for alignment, always use jackscrews! If you don't have them, beating on the machine frame with a steel-face hammer is a lousy idea. First, you run the risk of damaging the

We are happy to announce that the Swedish company Elos FIXTURLASER AB has been acquired by the French ACOEM Group, says Sales Director Rune Hassum in IKM Instrutek AS.
Greg Knitz, President of Alignment Supplies, Inc., announced today that Alignment Supplies, Inc. has been named as the North American Distributor for the RollProf 3T Roll Profile Measurement System. Ideal for production environments like steel mills and paper mills, the RollProf 3T Roll Profile Measurement System is an impressive leap forward, with an accuracy, ease-of-use, and comprehensive data reporting that is second-to-none.
Misalignment can occur between the driver and driven components no matter what mechanism is used to couple them together. This includes belt driven equipment as well. Unfortunately, properSheave ...
The answer may surprise you: - 6 percent of machines fail during the infant mortality period (startup). - 11 percent of machine failures are due to age. - 89 percent of machinery failures are random. This means that your equipment is as likely to fail after a few months of operation as it is after longer periods of operation (many months, years, etc.)

Machines usually give some type of indication before failing. Condition Monitoring techniques like vibration analysis can help you become aware of the changes in machinery condition that lead to failure. This knowledge will lead to benefits such as: - Reduction in machinery failures - Fewer catastrophic failures - Increased production - Better maintenance planning - Better maintenance scheduling - Greater control over spare parts - Reduced costs - Increased uptime - Increased equipment reliability - Increased equipment life - Improved profit - Reduced risk - Many more
You do not have wonder 89% of the time what is going to happen next with the equipment in your facility.
Premature wear of cardan shaft joints is one of the most common causes of machine downtimes. But cardan shaft misalignment is no longer a fatality. With patented brackets and new measurement methods, PRÜFTECHNIK reinvents cardan shaft alignment. Forget cardan shaft removal and the associated costs and risks: crane hire, safety hazards, machine damage and intensive manpower are issues of the past.
I am often asked, What tools and equipment does a millwright team need to do shaft alignment? Beyond the obvious safety equipment, such as hearing protection, steeltoe shoes, work gloves, hard hat, safety glasses and fire retardant clothing, some of the other essential equipment is not so obvious. So here’s a little list, with commentary, based on nearly 30 years of field experience.
1. It is impossible to implement good planning and scheduling methods 2. Equipment failure is usually random and the root causes are very difficult to determine 3. Higher level of equipment damage is experienced 4. Higher equipment repair cost is experienced 5. Higher spare parts inventory is required 6. Greater maintenance staffing is required 7. Higher overtime labor cost is experienced 8. Higher machine downtime is experienced 9. Higher risk to product quality 10. Higher risk to human safety 11. Higher environmental risk 12. Lower production availability is experienced resulting in reduced capacity 13. Lower profit is experienced 14. Competitive advantages are lost

It is a good idea to complete a few pre-alignment steps prior to conducting any alignment activity. For instance:
1. Verify a possible misalignment condition by using a condition monitoring technology such as vibration analysis or thermography when possible. This will help to identify the type of misalignment condition that is present, and any other conditions that could prevent a successful alignment. This may prevent unneeded work activity.
2. Conduct a visual inspection to identify foundation deterioration, grout quality issues, broken bolts, cracks in the machine feet or base, etc. These issues should be corrected before any alignment activity is started.
3. You may wish take a current power consumption and vibration reading on the equipment prior to any alignment activity and another set of readings after the machine has been properly aligned. This will document reductions in harmful vibration as well as the energy required to operate the equipment resulting from improved alignment.
4. Consideration should be given to thermal growth. Accurate thermal growth values should be determined and used during the alignment process. This will help ensure that the equipment is properly aligned during normal operating conditions.
Greg Knitz, President of Alignment Supplies, Inc., announced today the North American launch of the ALiSENSOR® SHAFTLASER™, a completely revolutionary new system for shaft alignment that combines all of the best aspects of Apple’s iOS devices like the iPad and iPhone with the most streamlined and easy-to-use shaft alignment interface ever developed. “ALiSENSOR® has already revolutionized the world of geometric measurement with the ALiSENSOR® Level,” said Mr. Knitz, “and now they have changed the game for laser shaft alignment users all over the world.” At only $4,890, Alignment Supplies expects that the ALiSENSOR® SHAFTLASER™ will make cutting-edge, wireless laser shaft alignment affordable and accessible to everyone.
