CNAM & PEMAC Announce MOU

CNAM & PEMAC Announce MOU

MISSISSAUGA, (March 11, 2024) – PEMAC Asset Management Association of Canada (PEMAC) and the Canadian Network of Asset Managers Association (CNAM) proudly announce the organizations have entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), establishing a strategic partnership which promotes mutual benefits, provides reciprocal support, and the exchange of ideas, information, technology and best practices in infrastructure asset management.

With recognition of each other’s shared interest in the knowledge transfer of best practices in asset management, the MOU creates the opportunity to broaden the ability to transfer knowledge nationally and regionally in a manner which benefits communities and municipalities managing assets, and the users of the assets, and contributes to the global discussion on asset management.

“The signing of this MOU recognizes the strategic partnership between PEMAC and CNAM, and our shared commitment to promoting asset management in Canada”, commented Bernadette O’Connor, Chair of CNAM.

“PEMAC’s presence in the municipal sector has grown tremendously over the past few years, particularly with the Government of Canada’s funding of the Federation of Canadian Municipalities’ Municipal Asset Management Program”, noted Nigel D’Souza, PEMAC President. “A strategic partnership with CNAM is a logical progression in supporting asset management professionals working with municipalities”.

This MOU identifies opportunities for collaboration in the development of municipal infrastructure asset management best practices and competencies, including encouraging and promoting member attendance and participation at each organization’s conferences and events, encouraging members of each organization to attend and lecture at the other organization’s events and activities to foster the exchange of ideas and impart their knowledge of the profession and for a CNAM member to sit on PEMAC’s Public Sector Committee.

About PEMAC: PEMAC is a Canadian not for profit, professional association which promotes and enables excellence in maintenance, reliability and asset management through collaboration, applied learning, leadership and advocacy.

About: CNAM: CNAM is a Canadian Not-For-Profit, member-based Association positioned to be Canada’s “national hub” for municipal infrastructure asset managers. CNAM serves its members through the following 4 foundation pillars:

  • LEADERSHIP – CNAM shapes the industry, providing a national voice and promoting the adoption and benefits of Asset Management.
  • CONNECTION – CNAM builds and nurtures networks enabling people to share experiences and learn from each other.
  • CAPACITY – CNAM builds knowledge and capability through learning, skills development and tools.
  • INNOVATION – CNAM continuously finds new ways to engage its people and foster innovation within and across communities.

Do or Do Not

Data analysis is critical to understanding problems and decision-making. Analysis that is not followed up by an action is likely a wasted opportunity, but not always.

Achieving Trouble Free Bearing Life Through Defect Elimination

When a machine is designed, one of the major considerations the engineer must make is the selection of proper rolling element bearings. Some of the factors to consider in selecting bearings are shaft speeds, loads (both axial and radial), the environment they will run in, how to relube them, the duty cycle, etc.

Who Does This Belong To?

In today’s fast-paced connected world, you and your organization create an abundance of data. In the past, large corporations with multiple locations relied on in person site visits or information provided by the on-site team for updates to productivity in facilities. But what if there was a way to do this remotely?

How Forgotten Data / Information Can Cost Hundreds of Thousands of Dollars

There was a terrible fire in a liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) plant. It destroyed piping and a critical air cooler (fin fan) and damaged pumps, valves, cables and supports. Fortunately, although there were injuries, no one died.

From Good to Great

A large water utility decided to investigate maintenance reliability best practices. There were eight different treatment plants and eight different maintenance managers.

So What?

A week after the plant started up after an annual planned outage, an injection pump motor failed. The motor’s insulation had failed, shorting between phases.
