Impact of Rewinding on Premium Efficiency Motors

Impact of Rewinding on Premium Efficiency Motors

Thomas Bishop - Senior Technical Support Specialist

Electrical Apparatus Service Association
In response to various opinions about maintaining motor efficiency during rewinding, the Electrical Apparatus Service Association and the Association of Electrical and Mechanical Trades (UK) conducted comprehensive rewind studies in 2003 and 2019. With increasing use of premium efficiency motors in the past decade, the second study sought to determine if efficiency is maintained when they are rewound using good practices. This presentation addresses the test methods, methodology, test results and technical details of the 2019 rewind study. Further, we will explain how repair processes affect efficiency and reliability, and describe the best repair practices to maintain or improve efficiency.
