NIF Facilities Remote Asset Condition Monitoring System – Proof of Concept

Igor Maslennikov, Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory

NIF has a mature Condition Based Maintenance (CBM) program which was initiated more than a decade ago. Remote Asset Condition Monitoring System (RACMS) is a part of the CBM effort. The RACMS proof-of-concept was successfully performed on a subset of NIF’s assets. The proof of concept included installation of various IoT sensors, wireless and wired, as well as creating an IT infrastructure, which allowed us to access the sensors data and route it to one application, Splunk. We selected Erbessd Instruments wireless sensors to monitor vibration, current, and temperature; use ifm effector vibration sensors for the wired solution, and have assets equipped with PLCs and built-in sensors connected to the network.
