Integrating Reliability Principles in the Design Stages of Water Resource Recovery Facilities

Laith Alfaqih - Advergus Taylor

This presentation showcases Reliability-Centered Design (RCD) for wastewater treatment basins. RCD workshops integrated asset management into the design, fostering collaboration and future maintenance practices. Client, design team, and contractor participated in workshops: 1. Design & Operation Philosophy, 2. FMECA, 3. Reliability Block Diagram (RBD) Modeling, and 4. Model Validation & Recommendations.

The RCD process identified 95 opportunities to enhance future O&M through design implementation. The RBD model predicted high availability. It also estimated lifetime costs and identified areas for cost optimization. Risk analysis demonstrated that the design met risk criteria, with redundancy mitigating critical system impacts. The collaborative RCD approach ensured a reliable facility design and informed future maintenance strategies.

You can ask anything about maintenance, reliability, and asset management.
