NASA’s Space Environments Testing Management Office manages a portfolio of facilities that provide critical testing capabilities that are vital to the Agency’s mission. The 1960s era facilities used for initial space exploration development are beyond their design life. They are unique, complex and in some cases, utilize common or custom equipment in exceptional ways in systems not normally encountered. SETMO is advancing the maintenance practices at these critical test facilities using an RCM approach to maintenance. SETMO’s decision to invest more strategically in its maintenance program’s practices will ultimately increase safety, decrease in repair costs, improve reliability, maintainability, and efficiency, resulting in sustaining the Agency’s critical facilities.
