Bentley Systems, Incorporated, the leading company dedicated to providing comprehensive software solutions for sustaining infrastructure, today announced the immediate availability of Field Supervisor. This new, industrial-strength Bentley App for the iPad extends the reach of information securely managed by Bentley’s ProjectWise and eB,  as well as data stored in other user repositories, to construction workers in the field – providing both online and offline access. As a result, field workers are now uniquely empowered to quickly and confidently make on-site decisions based on a unified view of relevant,  current, and complete project information. Faster, better-informed decision making enhances productivity and project quality, increases compliance with safety standards, and reduces risk. In addition, Field Supervisor’s simple user interface minimizes user distraction when accessing information, enhancing worker safety.

Field Supervisor also enables field workers to create personalized views that group and filter information stored in multiple project data sources based on its relevance to their specific project roles and tasks. One-click access into these views and one-tap synchronization with the data source make it simple to locate the exact types and most current versions of information needed – whether engineering documents or Microsoft Office documents – further accelerating the decision-making process.

Harry Vitelli, Bentley vice president, construction and field, said,  “Supervisors, foremen, inspectors, and other field construction professionals are tired of wasting countless hours searching through sometimes hundreds of printed documents to find the handful that are relevant to their project tasks. And once they locate the ones they’re looking for, they’re never sure the information is up to date – which is of particular concern when the decisions being made impact safety compliance and/or risk management. Field Supervisor brings a new level of confidence and assurance to on-site decision making,  enabling users to, for example, find and securely access i-models stored in ProjectWise for transfer to and review in our Navigator Mobile Bentley App. Moreover, through Bentley’s mobile development tools, its capabilities can be adapted to a wide range of user data sources, as well as extended to accommodate specific enterprise requirements.”

The construction industry has long been challenged by barriers to effective collaboration, and by the fact that virtually all construction productivity applications cease to be useful on the construction site.  iPads have created a new platform for mobile productivity, and Bentley has matched the flexibility of this form factor with the mobility,  security, and simplicity of Field Supervisor. This Bentley App provides field workers with the right information, at the right time and in the right place, to help them make the right project decisions – and do so safely.

Tom O’Keefe, leader of the Mobility Task group, Crossrail, said,  “Crossrail encourages innovative means of improving health and safety on site and embraces current technology to give greater access to risk management tools for those directly managing work activities, which includes the use of smartphone and tablet-based applications. The implication of mobility tools on construction site safety has been factored in at every stage of the development of a solution at Crossrail. This has included the design of simplified applications that allow users to continue working safely and the study of how tablets can be used in a safe manner.”

The advanced and secure information mobility that Field Supervisor provides is available at no additional charge to all holders of Bentley Passports. The new Bentley App can be downloaded on iTunes or at and comes preloaded with a connection to Bentley’s sample ProjectWise Online data source, along with a few example views.
