Like the metal-armored USB cables, the new plastic-armored cables are available with either USB Type A to Type B or Type A to Type A. They come in seven standard lengths from 0.3 meters all the way up to 5 meters long. Though they do not provide as much protection as the metal-armored versions (which can resist up to 1500 PSI), the cost per-meter is much lower for the plastic armor, such that the new 5-meter plastic-armored cable is over 40% less than the metal armored version.
“We realized there is a market for USB cables that can resist typical shocks, impacts and crushes found in many applications such as military/aerospace, security, medical facilities and industrial environments,” said Steve Smith, Product Manager. “Now we are giving our customers options to best suit their needs and budgets.”
The new plastic armored cables are currently stocked in L-com’s North Andover, MA, USA fulfillment center for same day shipment on orders. Free engineering drawings and 3D CAD models are available for download from L-com’s website.
