“PTTEP Australia is an oil and gas exploration company, with headquarters in Perth, Australia and offices in Darwin and Singapore. Working on a project to develop oilfields in the southern Timor Sea it built a new floating production, storage and offloading (FPSO) vessel. The FPSO is a sophisticated vessel with hundreds of pieces of equipment that need to kept in good working order 24/7.
“This requires robust preventive and corrective maintenance processes that needed Maximo to work effectively. The most important challenge was to keep the maintenance and procurement processes in sync between Perth, Darwin and the offshore FPSO. It could only communicate via a low-bandwidth satellite link and so they needed separate instances of the data to be kept in 3 locations so that everyone could carry on with their work even if the connection temporarily went down.”
Fortunately, the SRO Data Replicator (SDR) was designed to solve such a problem. Already used by in many offshore and remote Maximo installations it proved ideal for PTTEP as Greg Archer, their IT Support engineer explained.
“SDR is designed to solve the exact problem we were facing. SRO staff were excellent, they worked closely with our team to gain an understanding of what we wanted. This enabled them to carry out a lot of the configuration work in the UK. When they were ready, they flew over to Perth and installed the solution.
“Everything went smoothly and they did a great job on knowledge transfer. We now expect to see significant improvements in productivity and reductions in maintenance and procurement costs. SDR will help us ensure high availability for all the equipment onboard the FPSO 24/7.”
