Vibration Elements Introduced at the International Vibration Analysis Training Symposium and IMC2017

The Vibration Elements are designed to provide vibration diagnostic training for two-tiered asset condition management programs.

FORT MYERS, FL – November 8, 2017

Reliabilityweb.com® announced the planned release of Vibration Elements™ Competency Based Learning System to improve knowledge and experience around diagnostic skills for rotating machinery.

Uptime® Elements™ – A Reliability Framework and Asset Management System™ teaches the use of a two-tiered approach to asset condition management. The system combines the focused use of sophisticated condition directed inspections using vibration analysis, infrared thermography, motor testing, fluid analysis and ultrasound testing using certified specialists with the broader use of simpler, but sufficiently sensitive and “smart” tools for detecting and confirming indications of problems developing in facilities using front-line Vibration Leaders and Ultrasound Leaders.

In addition, after a repair, front-line Vibration Leaders and Ultrasound Leaders are empowered and equipped to declare an asset ready for return to operational service.

According to Jack Nicholas, Jr., author of “Asset Condition Monitoring Management,” there are substantial benefits to a two-tiered asset condition management program at both levels that can pay dividends in at least four (4) ways:

  1. The front-line Vibration Leaders and Ultrasound Leaders, equipped with a simple, but effective diagnostic tool and knowledge can perform the post-maintenance testing and make the “Go/No-Go” call with a reasonable level of assurance that this is correct. This boost confidence and self-esteem.
  2. Having a two-tiered program helps identify candidates who have the aptitude and interest in becoming an asset condition management team member should a vacancy become available.
  3. A two-tier approach relieves the asset condition management team the need to perform this post-maintenance testing task under time constraints (and pressures) and the need to return the asset to service as soon as possible.
  4. Another advantage of a two-tiered asset condition management program over other approaches is that it will educate both groups on each other’s capabilities (and limitations) and enhance future communications with a collaboration to create a culture of reliability aligned to Uptime® Elements™ – A Reliability Framework and Asset Management System™.

According to Reliabilityweb.com CEO, Terrence O'Hanlon, “Traditional ANSI or ISO-based vibration is an excellent option for those who plan a career in vibration analysis. The Vibration Elements™ training is aimed at the front-line workforce who deal directly with the rotating equipment. By providing them with an easy to understand vibration diagnostics framework and simplified “smart” tools, they can remove defects early, all while growing a culture of reliability.”

Reliabilityweb.com Vibration Elements™ training will be introduced at the International Vibration Analysis Training Symposium co-located with IMC-2017, the 32nd International Maintenance Conference, held at the Hyatt Regency Coconut Point Resort, December 11-15, 2017, in Bonita Springs, Florida.

There are several options for self-paced or instructor-led training:

  1. Reliabilityweb.com publishes the book, “Vibration Elements: Machinery Diagnostic Faults,” which has a special focus on each diagnostic topic (to be introduced at IMC-2017).
  2. The Uptime Elements Academy Online Learning Management System is an on-line course examining in further detail each diagnostic topic.
  3. Both components group the faults into the dominant frequency groupings found on the Vibration Fault Periodic Table. These are the Synchronous, Harmonic, Sub-Synchronous, Non-Synchronous and Modulation groups.
