Tener un radiador con alguna filtración, es una potencial de falla que de no ser reparada a tiempo, se corre el riego de pérdida completa del dispositivo, allí la importancia de hacer esta prueba a tiempo.

Probar la estanquidad de radiadores, inter-coolers o similares es muy útil del punto de vista del mantenimiento. Una manera artesanal, pero no menos valida, es sumergir el radiador en un depósito con agua suficiente para hundir completamente el panal, dejando la boquilla de admisión y tapa sin sumergir, el principio es el mismo al que se utiliza para encontrar un pinchazo en una cámara de bicicleta. Luego se inyecta aire a presión por una de sus aberturas, dejando la otra completamente tapada, para luego verificar la presencia de burbujas en el agua, que sería indicio de rotura en algún tubo componente del panal. Tener presente que esta prueba no debe realizarse a una presión superior un 20% a la nominal del equipo.
