When used oil analysis and/or Direct Reading Ferrographs indicate abnormal wear, Analytical Ferrography is an excellent test to identify the type of wear occurring and the source of wear. Analytical Ferrography is a qualitative, rather than quantitative analysis where particles are examine under a powerful optical microscope to determine size, concentration, color, shape and particle composition. Through Analytical Ferrography several different types of wear can be identified such as rubbing wear, abrasive wear, adhesive wear, cutting wear and corrosive wear. Results received from Analytical Ferrography provide for the application of timely, corrective maintenance, based on a machine's actual condition.
