Although maps may be a thing of the past for most of us, getting lost isn't. A majority of us have a GPS to help us navigate and avoid getting lost in our personal lives, but, what about at work? Start thinking about utilizing your Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) or Enterprise Asset Management (EAM) as your work related GPS.

Now you need to ensure your "maps and coordinates" are up-to-date with the latest information for both your GPS and CMMS/EAM. Unfortunately the CMMS/EAM" maps and coordinates" isn't something you can call about or download directly from the manufacturer. That initial download was performed during implementation and the "maps and coordinates" you have been collecting are a direct result of that implementation.

Have there been changes in your organization that impact the collection and utilization of your CMMS/EAM? Is everything you need available to quickly determine the most safe, efficient, and cost effective solution for the utilization of maintenance resources and materials? Can you quickly pinpoint where maintenance resources and maintenance expenditures are going or have gone?

You might want to consider a CMMS/EAM assessment to identify data deficiencies, configuration issues, training issues, or utilization issues. A comprehensive review of your system, its resident data, and, you're organizations utilization is a quick and cost effective way to ensure you maximize the potential for sound decisions and future data harvesting opportunities.

You've invested the time and money into your CMMS/EAM, maybe it's time to ensure its giving you what you need. After all it makes no sense to wander around lost in the maintenance world.

Not sure where or how to get started? People and Processes can help; more than a name it's a methodology for success.
