Literally, tips are for focusing. You may be used to taking the rubber cones (six-inch cone or the smaller 1.5”-2”) to locate air leaks. You should only use the cones when you are trying to “narrow” your focus.

For instance, if you are scanning a manifold, you may have multiple leaks. So, to locate the individual leaks, placing the applicable cone on your accessory or instrument will help you define each of the leaks.

Often technicians scan the overhead for air leaks with a cone on the front of the scanning module…WRONG. Scanning module have a wider field of view then when the cone is attached.
