by Syed Asim Hussain, Kuwait Oil Company
Kuwait Oil Company (KOC) has been using Maximo since 2010. It covers the entire asset lifecycle management from capital project inception to asset acquisition and from asset operations & maintenance to its disposition.
Maximo is being used at KOC to manage a wide variety of asset types and configured to address all of the relevant business processes including projects, inventory, purchasing, warehouse management, contracts, invoices, work management, eBusiness (eProcurement) and financials. It is also fully integrated with Oracle eBusiness suite and many other systems. Moreover, Maximo (IBM Control Desk) is also used for IT Services Management (ITSM) and IT assets.
The upgrade to Maximo release 7.6.1 was carried out in June 2019. Amongst the new features, it also included Maximo Work Center functionality that provides a new user-friendly interface and the new way of working. It includes enhanced inspection work center features. The inspection work centers can be used for the easy access to all of the relevant information based on the user role without the need to navigate to different applications within Maximo.
As a part of continuous improvements, Maximo inspection functionality and inspection work centers have been implemented at KOC to replace the legacy inspection system. It has helped the users to streamline work, boost productivity, track progress, improve accuracy, enforce standards, maintain visibility and ultimately reduce paper work.
The challenges faced and its handling during the project including migration from the legacy system, customizations, configurations, project management and key lessons learned will be shared.
