The primary focus of this group is preventive and predictive maintenance. Some knowledge of elevator and mechanical skills, techniques, equipment, and materials is required. Also will need complete qualifications as a Qualified Elevator Inspector (QEI) within 5 years of being in the position.

Penn State's Office of Physical Plant is seeking an Assistant Elevator Maintenance Program Supervisor. The Assistant Elevator Maintenance Program Supervisor is responsible for the vertical transportation needs of the University. This entails maintenance, modernization, upgrades, safety, permitting, record keeping, code compliance, testing, incident investigation, and standards on lifting equipment. Which also includes escalators, hoists, and lifts. This position will require forward-thinking on technology advancements and the changing needs of the University.


Responsibilities include:

  • Establishing and implementing a monitoring protocol
  • Implementing repairs, and documenting results
  • Assisting the supervisor with leading Elevator and Vibration Technicians.

The primary focus of this group is preventive and predictive maintenance. The Assistant Supervisor needs at least some working knowledge of these trades and should strive to become a subject matter expert while having the ability to maximize the value of planned maintenance services. Some knowledge of elevator and mechanical skills, techniques, equipment, and materials is required. Also will need complete qualifications as a Qualified Elevator Inspector (QEI) within 5 years of being in the position. This position requires a high level of accountability and self-management. Build confidence through a strong work ethic and values. The assistant supervisor will assist with developing and implementing a daily plan with minimal oversight. The assistant supervisor will assist with leading a team of 15+/- technicians and will report to the Elevator Supervisor. Teamwork and leadership are essential. Good communication skills coupled with the desire to collaborate are needed. Develop plans, practices, and efforts to ensure optimal support of diversity throughout the University. Effective oral and written communication is an essential function of this position. This position requires the ability to communicate with technicians at an advanced technical level and to translate technical information to an effective level for customers. Communication is required at all levels within the University, community, and industry.

Typically requires an Associate’s Degree or higher plus four (4) years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. This position requires that you operate a motor vehicle as a part of your job duties. A valid driver’s license and successful completion of a motor vehicle records check will be required in addition to standard background checks.
