Perform duties to protect public health and the environment through effective maintenance of the City's Water Treatment Plants, Wastewater Reclamation Plant, and associated off-site facilities. Responsibilities include maintaining mechanical equipment, keeping records with a computerized maintenance management system, and performing work in accordance with preventive maintenance and asset management programs. These tasks are illustrative only and may include other related duties.

Education and Experience
High school diploma, or equivalent.

Limited Maintenance Electrician's License or Millwright Certification is desired.

Two years of specialized training and five years prior work experience in a job related field. Experience required to obtain the Limited Maintenance Electrician's License or Millwright Certification can be applied to this requirement.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Journey level millwright skills or equivalent education and on-the-job training in maintaining water and wastewater treatment or related equipment.

Advanced knowledge of SCADA and DCS systems and ability to use these systems to monitor and operate water and wastewater plants and off-site facilities. Ability to use a computer to perform essential functions of the position.

Basic knowledge of engineering concepts and the ability to apply these concepts and construction practices to ensure the integrity of mechanical systems. Ability to read engineering drawings and interpret maps.

Knowledge and understanding of work-related safety practices, OSHA and environmental rules and regulations, particularly in regards to electrical safety or work in confined space and hazardous conditions.

Effective communication, analytical, customer service and interpersonal skills.

Ability to get along well with co-workers.

Special Requirements
First Aid and CPR certification or the ability to obtain within one (1) year of appointment.

Training and competency related to Hazard Communication, Personal Protective Equipment, Respiratory Protection, Confined Space Entry, Electrical Safety, Energy Control, and Fall Protection or the ability to obtain within one (1) year of appointment.

Forklift and Crane operation certification is desired.

Oregon DEQ Wastewater Collections Systems Operator II or Oregon Wastewater Operator Grade Level II and Oregon Water Distribution System Operation Grade Level II or Oregon Water Operator Grade Level II certifications or ability to obtain within two years of assignment if assigned the primary responsibility of the off-site water and wastewater facility operations and maintenance.

Possession of and the ability to maintain a valid Oregon Drivers License.

Must be able to respond within 60 minutes or less to the Wastewater Reclamation Plant for after-hours calls or emergencies prior to the end of probationary period.

Capable of advanced decision making regarding assessment of immediate situations, available options, and selection of appropriate methods and procedures, material availability and ordering, equipment utilization and response to customer issues.

Essential Functions

Inspects, troubleshoots, maintains, removes, repairs, and installs mechanical equipment at water and wastewater facilities. Designs, fabricates, and improves mechanical equipment.

Plans, schedules, and performs work in accordance with preventive maintenance and asset management programs.

Plans, schedules, coordinates, and communicates activities with supervisor, coworkers, water and wastewater operations work groups. Prepares workplans in advance of tasks outlining work scope, safety measures, and impacts to stakeholders.

Researches information for equipment repairs and/or new equipment or applications. Selects and purchases maintenance supplies. Assists in budget preparation process.

Prepares scope of work for request for bids, proposals, and service contracts. Participates in bid and proposal evaluations, and design reviews. Dependent on project complexity, oversee, manage and/or assist in the progress of consultant and contractor related projects. Participates in the process to update Utility Master Plans.

Responds to emergency calls, including after hours response within required timeframe. Position may involve working overtime and on weekends as needed.

Revises, updates, and creates equipment manuals and records regarding equipment operation and performance. Maintains records and reports consistent with local, County, State, and federal requirements.

Incumbents may be assigned primary responsibility for operation and maintenance of off-site facilities. Monitors water booster stations and sanitary lift stations and ensures continuous operation. Monitors reservoir operation for adequate storage volume and superior water quality. Performs work in alignment with requirements set forth by the Oregon Health Authority and Department of Environmental Quality.

Assists and directs seasonal employees as needed. Cooperates with and assists other work groups in performance of tasks.

Conforms with all safety rules and practices, and performs work in a safe manner. Maintains job-site safety for self and co-workers and minimizes hazardous conditions.

Performs as a member of a team, assisting with development of work group goals and objectives, and contributing to the achievement of goals and objectives. Maintains effective work relationships.

Salary: $28.98-$36.85 hourly full-time 40 hours per week
