In this newly created role, the General Manager, Strand Based Business (SBB) Technical reports to the Vice President, SBB, and is responsible for leading and overseeing a wide array of key division-wide initiatives and functions – all squarely aimed to bolster this key line of business, and therefore the company, going forward. Areas of focus include: Quality, Environment, Operational Excellence, Safety, Procurement and Asset Protection Programs for all strand-based business operations, and which includes three separate Mills located across Western Canada. The General Manager will support these operations by owning several systems and implementing initiatives that will enhance performance of the SBB Division and that will optimize ROI over the long term, while continuing to improve its safety and environmental performance. In achieving this objective, the General Manager, is required to ensure an effective risk management program is in place to protect the assets of the business unit operations. The General Manager oversees a capable team through 5 direct reports and will also provide support to the operation teams as required to ensure the company meets its goals and objectives.

The ideal candidate is a senior forestry leader who brings a track record of managing multi-site mill operations that operate 7/24. Although forestry experience is preferred, an industrial, multi-site operational leader leading a large, complex manufacturing business would be of interest, as well. This GM will bring a track record of introducing and implementing key and strategic performance, safety or environmental initiatives that help to future-proof the organization. Critical will be the ability to influence, manage change, get buy-in and move complex operation-wide or division-wide projects forward.

This role is ideally based in Vernon (Tolko’s headquarters) but practically speaking could be based in Western Canada, keeping in mind that extensive time at all the sites will be critical. Further, should the ideal candidate not come directly from related strand-based business background, more extended periods of time at the various mill sites may be warranted to learn the business and generally set the candidate up for success.
