The University of North Carolina at Charlotte is seeking applications for a Lead Fire Suppression Systems Technician for the Facilities Management Department. This is a full-time, permanent staff position.

Salary: $60,051 - $67,000

Primary Purpose of Position: The person in this position will serve as a lead fire sprinkler technician responsible for campus-wide fire sprinkler testing, inspection, maintenance, and repair. The person in this position will perform other duties as assigned and instructed by the Fire Systems Supervisor.

Minimum Qualifications: Graduation from a technical college with an Associate degree in electromechanical technology or instrumentation technology and four years of experience related to the area of assignment experience; or an equivalent combination of training and directly related experience.

Essential Job Duties: The Fire (water-based) Suppression Systems Lead Technician performs work under the direction of the Fire Systems Supervisor. Duties will include, but are not limited to: Inspect, repair, and maintain campus water-based suppression systems, including fire pump maintenance and testing. Manage and direct contracted Fire Systems’ vendors as required. Produce accurate and relevant documentation on all work performed. Perform work in compliance with University and NC State standards.

Preferred Qualifications: Two years of experience installing, maintaining, and repairing physical plant facilities. Five years’ progressive experience in fire sprinkler service, maintenance, testing, and repair. Experience in fire pump maintenance, alignment, and testing. NICET Level II certification (or above) in the Inspection and Testing of Water Based Suppression Systems is required. Ability to effectively communicate the English language (reading, writing, interpretation, and comprehension) required. Effective skills in verbal, written, and interpersonal communication. Be computer literate. Possess working knowledge and skill with Google Documents, Microsoft Word, and Excel, and be willing and able to learn new programs. Ability to effectively work/interact with persons from different backgrounds and cultures. Ability to foster and create an atmosphere of teamwork. Valid driver’s license is required. The Specialty Trades Technician operates assigned vehicles on and/or off campus and is required to possess, maintain, or obtain a valid driver’s license upon appointment to the position.
