Grace's Lake Charles facility is one of the largest refining catalyst plants in the world and is an OSHA VPP Star-certified site. It represents over half of Grace's catalyst manufacturing capacity and produces a significant portion of the world's supply of refining technology catalysts. Products made in Lake Charles are used in multiple refinery operations to produce transportation fuels and chemical precursors. In addition to U.S. destinations, products are shipped to Europe, the Middle East, Southeast Asia, and Latin America.

In recent years, Grace has made capital investments of over $200 million at the Lake Charles facility, including a 2020 expansion project that doubled the site’s hydroprocessing catalyst capacity. Additional investments have been made to expand product technology, improve reliability, and reduce manufacturing costs.

The original Lake Charles facility was completed in 1953 when it began to provide the Gulf Coast area with manufacturing capacity for synthetic fluid cracking catalysts. The Lake Charles area was selected because of its central location in the Gulf Coast, between the two large refining centers of Baton Rouge, LA and Houston, TX. Lake Charles also was considered ideal because many of the raw materials required were locally available, along with transportation by water, rail, highway, and air. Over 350 Grace employees as well as over 100 contractors operate the facility. In addition to being a leading refining catalyst plant, Lake Charles is an established member of the Southwest Louisiana community providing numerous volunteer services and resources to support the local region.
