SMRPCO EXTENDS TIME FOR CERTIFICATION EXAM

McLEAN, Va., November 18, 2010 - The Society for Maintenance and Reliability Professionals Certifying Organization (SMRPCO) is pleased to announce that at the October board meeting a decision was made to extend the time allowed for CMRP exam candidates from two hours to two and a half hours.  This change will take place starting December 1 of this year.

“As the CMRP certification program continues to grow internationally, we recognized that we need to be sensitive to those with English as a second language and we don’t want to disadvantage candidates simply due to the extra time it takes to read through the questions,” said SMRPCO chair Joe Grande.  “Currently the exam is only available in English and Spanish.  We are working on and are close to launching our Brazilian Portuguese version of the exam.”

This decision was researched and considered at length and psychometrician Dr. Early, who guides SMRPCO on the testing best practices, affirmed that as the change applied to all candidates, SMRPCO remained within the bounds of our ANSI accreditation.

Director of Certification, Greg Yeager, said, “We are excited about the growth of the certification program and are always looking for feedback and ways to continuously improve our processes.”

The CMRP exam is accredited by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) under the ISO 17024 standards for a Personnel Certification Program and is taken by over 1,000 candidates every year and there are currently close to 3,000 CMRPs in over 40 countries world wide.
