Los defectos eléctricos del estator crean vibración en una frecuencia del doble de la velocidad operacional. En los motores de inducción de dos polos estas frecuencias se pueden confundir a veces por defectos mecánicos que ocurren al doble de la velocidad operacional. Una solución para separar estas fuentes es la de tomar un espectro de resolución muy alto. Otro método es el de utilizar una luz estroboscópica conectada a un instrumento de vibración. Afine la luz estroboscópica para destellar al doble de la velocidad giratoria del rotor utilizando la luz del estroboscopio del oscilador interno.

Entonces cambie el destello de la señal de vibración. Si la vibración es relacionada a la velocidad giratoria del eje, la imagen del eje permanecerá estacionaria. Si la fuente es el estator, la imagen del eje empezará a girar lentamente.
