The revolutionary ROTALIGN® touch, the cloud-based shaft alignment system that combines precision measurement with mobile connectivity, has with the latest free firmware release 1.2 taken another leap forward.
Proper equipment function requires a properly aligned and balanced machine. Allowing a machine to operate with an unbalance condition can result in bearing damage, cracks, loose components and
All plants have a maintenance backlog. If plants consistently have no maintenance backlog then it could be argued that they are either spending too much on maintenance, or they don’t have the ...

As part of the collaboration, Siemens customers aiming to develop and make available their apps in the public cloud will be able to choose in future between Microsoft datacenters in different locations around the world.
This is a resource no organization should be without! The Asset Condition Monitoring (ACM) Project Manager’s Guide provides basic information about what an ACM initiative or organizational component is, how it should be conducted and who should be involved. The material is presented to help an organization determine if it is ready to undertake ACM. The guide also identifies ideas and practices an organization must embrace or improve and notes pitfalls to avoid in order to enhance its chance of success.
Many craftsmen and engineers have tried to balance a machine using a pencil to mark the shaft. Given a slow speed, large deflections, a steady hand and some nerve, this could have been
... - You can balance with a pencil if you have slow speeds, large deflections, and a steady hand.
A common mistake among companies is to fix problems as they occur rather than preventing those problems from happening. One opportunity for prevention is through the health of your lubricants. It has been estimated that most production organizations lose between 10 and 15% of their plants total maintenance budget each year due to downstream effects of poor lubrication. Although a robust PdM program will include condition feedback technologies such as oil analysis, vibration analysis, ultrasonic testing and infrared thermography, these tools provide data on a failure that has already begun. A precision lubrication strategy requires root cause elimination. Installing desiccant breathers, filtering new oil, and protecting your oil during transfer to your equipment are all ways to decrease the root cause of machine downtime.
More than 50% of all pump damage is caused by misalignment! Let’s hypothetically assume we are operating 95 assets with a mix of 50-200 HP pumps. In this example each of those pumps is

IMC-2016 - 40:13 by Tom Murphy, SDT Ultrasound Solutions
The measurement of ultrasound with portable devices to provide an objective assessment of the health of a bearing has been well-documented over the last decade. In more recent times, the interconnection between a grease gun and an ultrasound instrument has taken this process one stage further. This presentation reports on a further evolution - the use of an on-line monitoring system using contact ultrasound sensors to provide a continuous indication of the frictional state and early failure state of rolling element bearings.Case histories showing how this technology can be combined with remote lubrication of difficult-access bearings to provide instant feedback on the benefit or otherwise of individual shots of grease.
Schaeffler is the only company in the German-speaking countries whose training program on vibration condition monitoring and diagnostics, which is offered jointly with the independent SECTOR Cert certification center, is completed with an accredited certificate. Training and certification are in accordance with DIN ISO 18436 2, have been proven to be professionally competent, in compliance with legal as well as normative requirements and at the highest possible level internationally.
The Greek physician Hippocrates (c.460 BC – c.370 BC) is credited with an oath that was meant to provide certain ethical standards a physician was to uphold. While maintenance is not of the magnitude as being a doctor, organizations would do well to apply portions of the Hippocratic oath to their maintenance practices. Two such examples are: “…to teach them this Art, if they shall wish to learn it, without fee or stipulation; and that by precept, lecture, and every other mode of instruction, I will impart a knowledge of the Art to my own sons, and those of my teachers, and to disciples...” and “I will follow that system of regimen which, according to my ability and judgment … and abstain from whatever is deleterious and mischievous.”1 This article focuses on the latter, “and abstain from whatever is deleterious and mischievous,” or in 21st century vernacular: Do no harm.
The RELIABILITY Conference – 45:47 by Mike Johnson, President – Precision Lubrication Services
This presentation adds a different perspective on modern maintenance operations. Precision lubrication add a tremendous value as you go about the efforts of reducing the costs of ongoing machine care. Lubricants represent 1-3% of the total budget in typical maintenance budget divisions. Mike Johnson talks about executing a plan for machine lubrication that can improve the performance and streamline operations.
