Conserve Your Energy - The Benefits of Pump System Optimization

by Roland McKinney

Most process industries depend on rotodynamic pumps to achieve their business goals. Unfortunately in many cases, the approach is to "fit and forget" (at least until a critical repair is needed). There can be severe cost penalties associated with this approach, of which reduced productivity is probably the greatest as well as higher than necessary energy and maintenance cost.

SpectraQuest Introduces the Wind Turbine Simulator (WTS)

SpectraQuest introduces a full featured Wind Turbine Simulator (WTS) for education in wind turbine technology from power generation to operation. The device provides an ideal platform for teaching the fundamental principles of wind energy conversion to electricity, energy storage, control system, instrumentation, operation, and maintenance of a wind turbine. The innovative design allows for the WTS to be used with and without the presence of wind such as in laboratory settings. This integrated package includes a hands-on experimentation device, curriculum, sensors and data acquisition and software along with a full set of instrumentation to expedite learning. The system consists of three independently actuated blades with ability to control the pitch, a 360 degree turning yaw control mechanism, a nacelle, a turbine hub, a vertical tower, and complete control system.

Winds of fortune blow Turningpoint’s way

An initial $NZ4.2 million contract to supply wind turbine condition monitoring and technical support for 13 wind farms in the United States could be the tip of the turbine blade for New Zealand company Turningpoint Ltd.

Pump Systems - Improving Energy Efficiency and Reliability

Pump Systems - Improving Energy Efficiency and Reliability

A recorded 54 minute on demand webinar by Roland McKinney Senior Consultant, Sustainability, SKF

Pump systems play a critical role in most plant industrial facilities. Many assessments suggest that energy costs for pump systems can be reduced by 20% or more, simply by improving pump and system efficiency. This presentation will discuss how plants can carry out routine measurements and monitor pump energy efficiency, ultimately to reduce energy costs. An Energy Monitoring Service - Pump Systems program can work in parallel with your condition monitoring program as part of a comprehensive asset management system.

Watch this on-demand webinar to find out more about:

* Pump system energy considerations

* Relationship between energy consumption and reliability

* Outline of an Energy Monitoring Service - Pumps Systems program

Finally, VDI 3834 Vibration Acceptance Levels for Wind Turbines

The wind energy sector presents many variables that make reliability and maintenance a challenge for all involved with wind power plants. Wind Turbines, by reason of their design, location of installation and operation, do not abide by any international standard for vibration.
