How to Select the Right Grease

How to Select the Right Grease

An hour long presenation by Jarrod Potteiger Product & Services Manager, Des-Case Corporation

Grease selection may not be the most important aspect of a lubrication program, but it is one of the most misunderstood. In some cases, choosing the wrong grease can lead to frequent component failures and the root cause often goes unnoticed. Over time, with changes in lubricant suppliers and maintenance staff, specifications for certain machines can end up being very different from where they started. The good news is that grease specification is easy if you learn how to do it. Understanding how to specify grease will often lead to improved equipment performance, reduced energy consumption and a reduction in the number of different greases used.

A 60 minute Webinar Tutorial on Demand led by Paul Klimuc, International Service Manager, SDT Ultrasound Solutions

Lubricating bearings based on their condition, rather than time in service, is the best way to optimize greasing at your facility. Condition based lubrication programs rely on ultrasound data collection to alarm when re-greasing is required. Techs re-lubricate bearings with an ultrasonic grease gun interface to ensure the right amount of grease is added. Join Paul Klimuc of SDT Ultrasound Solutions as he discusses the role of ultrasound for condition based bearing lubrication.

Audit, Develop and Implement

by Paul Dufresne

Completing an Audit and Implementing Changes to Boost Lubrication Program Performance

In 2009, Trico Services was contracted to complete an equipment lubrication audit of a large mill in the southeast that produces liner and corrugated material for containers. This audit was for roughly 2500 pieces of rotating equipment. Upon completion of the audit, Trico was to take the lubrication recommendations and input this data into the MAINTelligence software platform that the facility uses using to manage their plant lubrication programs.

Solving Lubricant Varnish

Solving Lubricant Varnish

An hour long webinar on demand by Greg Livingstone, Executive Vice President, Technology, Fluitec

The most common failure mode of lubricants used in oxidative environments is the creation of deposits in the lubricant system. Benchmarking Lubrication Performance

Benchmarking Lubrication Performance

A workshop by Jarrod Potteiger, Product & Educational Services Mgr., Des-Case Corporation

The past 20 years has seen a renewed interest in the subject of precision lubrication. Many organizations have come to realize their deficiencies in this area and are scrambling to develop world class programs to stay ahead of the pack. One of the most common problems with these efforts is a lack of direction. After all, just "getting better" is not really a proper game plan. For those who are embarking on this process or like many others, are floundering with it, the best approach may be to take a step back and make a proper assessment of the current program to identify the biggest strengths, weaknesses and opportunities.

Mixing Oil & Water Part 2: Strategies for Removing Water

By Mark Barnes

Water is a pervasive contaminant. Present in all but the most arid environments, the impact of water on equipment health and machine reliability can be devastating. In Part 1 of this article (Feb/March 2011), we examined the impact that water has on both the lubricant and its ability to support dynamic loads. In Part 2, we'll look at how we can control moisture under even the most extreme conditions.

Mixing Oil and Water: A Recipe for Downtime!

By Mark Barnes, Vice President - Reliability Services, Des Case Corporation

While conventional wisdom would hold that oil and water don't mix, in reality, they do! Even clean, dry oil can hold minute amounts of water in the dissolved phase. Dissolved water can be thought about in the same terms as water vapor in the atmosphere.
