Extended reality technologies, including augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR), are quickly finding place for a range of applications in the consumer, commercial, and industrial worlds. As the industrial world is faced with an impending skills gap crisis related to the rapidly approaching mass exodus of skills from the industry with few young people wanting to take up the gauntlet, AR and VR technologies are proving to be effective tools to help the industrial workforce. The current COVID-19 pandemic has added to these challenges and given rise to a new kind of short-term skills gap. With remote augmented communication and virtual training, AR and VR can help the industry better address the impending skills gap challenge.
