Photography for Maintenance Activities

Photography for Maintenance Activities

The RELIABILITY Conference – 52:28
by Paul Crocker, Kansas City Board of Public Utilities

Sometimes I need more information on an Asset than what is readily available. In those instances I’ll give a camera to one my staff and ask them to get photos of what I need. I usually get back images that aren’t usable and then I have to go and take them myself (which is a waste my time). My goal with this presentation is to share my frustrations, and to show how I trained my staff to use the camera so that when I send them to get pictures of something I get the photographic image that I want with sufficient surrounding detail so I can tell where the photo was taken, what’s going on with the object, and nameplate data.

Reliability Centered Asset Management - 49:16
The RELIABILITY Conference 2016-Asset Management Forum
by Richard Overman, Author

With the transition from the twentieth to the twenty-first century, industry has experienced growth of automated technology, the Internet and computer capability. With so much technology readily available, users have the ability to better monitor their equipment and know the condition of their assets with more precision. However, is more precision necessarily a better thing? Just knowing the asset condition more precisely does not necessarily mean the asset is better managed. A better monitored asset that is not substantially contributing to the function of the organization does not help the organization. Hence, the challenge is to effectively use current and future technologies.

RCM: On-Condition Task Interval Determination

RCM: On-Condition Task Interval Determination

The highly structured RCM process is a proven approach for determining what must be done to any physical asset to ensure it continues to do what you want it to do in the present operating context. The first step of the task selection process starts by assessing the effects of the failure mode and classifying them into one of four broad categories of consequences. The next step identifies a proactive task that reduces the consequences of failure to the extent that it is technically feasible. The criteria used to judge whether an on-condition maintenance task is technically feasible are fairly consistent across the various compliant RCM processes. Specifically, RCM2™ uses the following yardsticks:
