Developing an Asset Management Strategy

Most large plants have $100's of millions in investments. They were all built with an objective to provide earnings superior to risk-free government bonds. While there are many factors which influence profitability, maximizing output potential is often the single greatest opportunity, especially for low-margin, commodity-type businesses. A typical measure of success of asset deployment is Return on Assets (ROA).

Where Does Reliability Really Start?

In most manufacturing plants, the failure of process equipment typically yields frantic calls to the maintenance department to conduct reactive maintenance to bring the equipment back online.

Reliability Across Division Lines

Navajo Generating Station, NGS, was built in the early 1970's. NGS's primary purpose was to provide power for the Central Arizona Project, CAP. The CAP carries Colorado River water to the metropolitan areas of Phoenix and Tucson. The United States Bureau of Reclamation, Salt River Project (SRP), Los Angeles Division of Water and Power, Arizona Public Service, Nevada Power and Tucson Electric Power are the owners.
