In this Presentation, learn by shared Examples and Experiences from a large Food Manufacturer how they use their existing CMMS tool and data to effectively choose and use the “right” Maintenance Strategy.

Questions to be Answered and Areas to be covered:

What is the “right” Maintenance Strategy? RCA Blitz? – FMEA? – Run to Failure? – Routine Inspections? PdM? CBM? - Asset strategy? – Is there a Silver Bullet? Is it the same for every Asset? Or is there a simple way to start?

A Simple Way – Use Your existing CMMS Tool and Data as your starting point...

First Steps...

Evaluate...

Next Steps...

Using this Simple Way, the scope of Maintenance Reliability and Asset Strategy can be narrowed down to achievable steps.

Results – Increased Uptime, Reduced Maintenance Costs and more effective use of Maintenance Labor – In reasonable cost effective steps.

Using CMMS to Influence Culture: Herbalife’s Success Story

Using CMMS to Influence Culture: Herbalife’s Success Story

IMC-2017 Learning Session - 42:36

by Greg Perry, eMaint Enterprises, & Laura Phillips, Herbalife.

When it comes to improving reliability, many organizations focus on their machines. But you know what they forget about? People. Professionals sometimes forget about their people who are behind the machines, making the reliability program a reality.

Laura Phillips, CMMS Administrator at Herbalife, and Greg Perry, Sr. Consultant at eMaint, will explain how to foster and sustain a culture of communication and reliability with the support of a CMMS. Laura and Greg will define what maintenance culture is and the key success factors to make positive cultural changes.

Drawing on professional experiences, they will identify how maintenance teams can continuously optimize processes and spend more time identifying opportunities for further improvement, and less time dedicated to downtime activities with a strategic focus.

As CMMS experts and professionals in the field, the duo will also share successful approaches to implementation and key performance indicators (KPIs) to track via CMMS reporting tools and dashboards.

Whether an organization is actively engaged in improving maintenance culture, or never gave it a second thought, this session will offer valuable best practice insight into how to leverage your CMMS to sustain culture of communications and continuous improvement.

How Failure Data Contributes to the Success of Your Reliability Program

How Failure Data Contributes to the Success of Your Reliability Program

Although more and more industrial plants have been incorporating reliability into their vocabulary, in several cases, something has been lost in translation. More times than not, when asked about their asset reliability program, maintenance reliability organizations do not have a process in place to document asset failures, specifically the utilization of failure coding within their computerized maintenance management system (CMMS). The goal of this article is to shed light on the long-lasting benefits of documenting failure data so that organizations not doing so become the exception rather than the rule.

Creating a Spare Parts Holding List With Confidence

Creating a Spare Parts Holding List With Confidence

As anyone with a hand in running a household knows, it’s important to keep a stockpile of key items. You certainly don’t want to find out the hard way that you’re on your last square of toilet paper! But in the case of a facility like a power plant, a missing spare part could be more than just a nuisance, it could be downright expensive.

Determining the appropriate spare parts to have on hand in a large facility, however, can be tricky. This is especially true after building a facility from the ground up, when you don’t have a frame of reference for which spare parts you’re most likely to need first.

Most organizations deal with this in one of two ways: 1) they guess or 2) they purchase according to a spares list provided by an equipment vendor.

Reactive Plants Suffer from Attention Deficit Disorder, and There Is a Cure

Reactive Plants Suffer from Attention Deficit Disorder, and There Is a Cure

The RELIABILITY Conference - 29:56
by Michael Aroney, Allied Reliability Group

The Executive Function of the brain is a set of mental skills that helps us get things done. It occurs in the frontal lobes and allows us to manage time, pay attention, switch focus, plan and organize, remember details, and do things based on experience. Individuals with Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD) have lowered functioning in the frontal lobes resulting in a diminished ability to (1) organize: gather information and structure it for evaluation; and (2) regulate: take stock of the environment and changing behavior in response to it. Without some manner of response to enhancing these abilities, the results are often disorganization, inefficiency, increase in spending on lost items, increased time to complete tasks, and last minute changes in plans.

It is an amazing coincidence that the symptoms of Attention Deficit Disorder are also displayed in reactive plants. The diminished Executive Function, in this case, is analogous to disengaged leadership due to functional silos and fragmented communication between them, resulting in what Dr. Michael Hammer called "process fragmentation". What is also notable is that the interventions for helping someone with ADD compensate in order to lead a more proactive life are very similar to what a plant with a reactive maintenance and reliability environment would employ to move from a reactive posture of "fixing an asset after it breaks" to "fixing an asset before it breaks".

This presentation will present the parallels between ADD in humans and reactive plants and the interventions used to build proactive behaviors and results.

Leveraging Plant Process Data for Advanced Analytical Diagnostics

Leveraging Plant Process Data for Advanced Analytical Diagnostics

The RELIABILITY Conference Learning Session - 38:02
by Jamie Dugan, Luminant

Traditional alarming associated with plant process data typically does not go far enough in providing adequate margin to ensure acceptable levels of equipment reliability. Through the integration of remote monitoring, modeling and diagnostics, Luminant’s Power Optimization Center (POC) identifies, forecasts and advises plant personnel of emergent issues impacting power production. Emergent equipment issues are communicated directly to plant control room operators. For longer term issues, plant engineers and other support organizations are engaged.

The POC provides technical expertise, operating and maintenance recommendations, and field support to facilitate optimum plant performance. The POC provides a mechanism for knowledge transfer, sharing of best practices and leverages the strengths from a decade of operating experience supporting both nuclear and fossil fuel generation. The POC monitors real time plant performance, equipment critical to generation and other key process parameters in order to identify improvement opportunities.
