Have you ever wondered where the twice-line-frequency peak (typically 120 Hz or 100 Hz) comes from in the spectrum? It can indicate a fault condition, and it can be confused with other fault conditions - and it can mean absolutely nothing! In this presentation we hope to clarify two issues; why does the peak appear at twice the line frequency, and which faults are indicated by the appearance (or growth) in the peak at that frequency. In addition to understanding the origin of the twice-line-frequency peak, you will learn a little about magnetic fields and how three-phase induction motors work. As always we will use 3D animations and simulations to make the topic easy to understand (and interesting to view).

A forty-five minute long presentation by Trigg Minnick, CMRP, Technical Products & Services Manager, Des-Case Corporation
This presentation describes the ways equipment loses its usefulness. By then understanding how these mechanisms occur, we will discuss practices and solutions that will mitigate the 4 predominant equipment wear mechanisms.
This article explains the factors affecting transmission through an infrared (IR) window (as used in a practical electrical inspection application). Learn how different IR window types affect your readings and how to correct for transmission losses.
Testo Thermal Imaging is excited and proud to announce the availability of their next generation thermal imaging software. We feel providing upgrades to our software so it keeps pace with the additional features built into our imagers, provides the best thermal imaging experience for our customers. These products truly separate Testo from other manufacture’s by providing innovative solutions based on our customer’s needs. This has been the third such free upgrade made available to our customers in the past year alone.

Online Condition Monitoring can provide reliable and repeatable information on assets where an increased frequency of data collection is required due to its criticality or its potential failure rate. Online Condition Monitoring can also provide access to data from areas that are deemed unsafe or hazardous to collect information by portable methods.
FARMINGTON, CT, September 7, 2012 - PowerHawke, Inc. announced today that it had entered into an agreement with IRISS, Inc., a leading manufacturer of infrared (IR) inspection window technology, to become a New England, Level I Partner for their product line. The line is comprised of numerous sizes, shapes and configurations applicable to a wide-range of equipment in most critical power systems. PowerHawke will be focusing the majority of its efforts in the electrical space although the IRISS product line cuts across many types of applications.
Testo announces the new Testo 875i thermal imager, a professional quality and versatile thermal imager with very high thermal sensitivity, outstanding image quality, while providing simplified ease of use. Testo, a precision based German manufacturer, is launching onto the market this technologically advanced and well designed thermal imager for industrial, commercial and building science applications. The image quality and the achieved technical standards raise the bar in this class of hand held imagers.
Franklin Lakes, NJ - Process Sensors Corporation announces the addition of the PSC-CS-Laser-2L and 2MH sensors to their digital self-contained infrared thermometer line. The rugged two-wire sensors feature double laser aiming capability that identifies the target location and actual spot size at other than the focal distance.

Given their remote location and the extreme operating conditions, the successful monitoring of wind turbines is a critical pursuit. However, they do present a number of challenges, including: they vary in speed and load, they have high speed and low speed components, they include a complicated planetary gearbox, they resonate, an on-line monitoring system is required, and costs must be minimized due to the number of turbines being operated.
A forty-five minute long presentation by Daus Studenberg, Applications Engineer, LUDECA, Inc.
This webinar by Daus Studenberg will explain how to drastically reduce the time required to ensure the correct installation of one of the most critical components of machinery - the baseplate.

Getting the optimum life from bearings is somewhat uncommon. Many maintenance professionals don't even realize how long bearings should last in a given application. Unfortunately, many focus on failure prediction and repair efficiency when they could be preventing failures in the first place. In order to achieve longer bearing life, one must understand the common root causes of bearing wear and learn how to eliminate them.

In this webinar you will learn the basics used to trend and monitor rotating equipment for predictive maintenance using ultrasound equipment. We will cover how to setup a database for trending data, where to set alarm levels and how to monitor lubrication in conjunction with incipient bearing failure.
Never content to rest on their laurels, Process Sensors Corporation continues to forge ahead with the development of new and improved features to their non-contact infrared temperature sensors.
This article is written as a follow-up to the April/ May 2012 Uptime magazine article titled, "When Decibel's Aren't Enough." In the previous issue of Uptime, we told the story of testing eight, 50 hp filtration pump and motors at a local waterpark.

SKF Acoustic Emission Enveloping should be used along with the measurement of other data as part of a multi parameter approach to provide a holistic assessment of a bearing or a machine's health. Acoustic emission enveloping technology can detect lubrication defects and improve machinery monitoring, providing a valuable indication of unhealthy or damaging running conditions that can be corrected or improved. Traditional vibration in most cases indicates that damage has already occurred.
