Upgraded SKF Explorer spherical roller bearings for vibratory applications have been newly engineered to provide ideal performance and longer service life compared with conventional types. Typical applications include vibrating screens, compactors, road rollers, and similar end-uses operating with high vibration and exposed to contamination, and/or poor lubrication conditions. The bearings additionally are designed to accommodate very heavy radial and axial loads suiting applications where misalignment or shaft deflections may occur.

Indian Rocks Beach, FL - Cosen Saws, a leading global manufacturer of industrial band saws, has selected the Digiducer™ USB Digital Accelerometer as their embedded vibration monitoring input for their MechaLogix cloud based machinery monitoring technology. The Digiducer digital USB piezoelectric accelerometer was chosen for its high dynamic range, rugged performance in the factory environment, and the simplicity of integration with its plug-and-play capability within standard operating systems (www.digiducer.com).
In today’s industrial environment, most turbomachinery has permanently installed machinery protection systems that incorporate vibration monitoring instrumentation. These systems typically utilize proximity probes to monitor both radial and thrust events (i.e., relative vibration measurements), case mounted seismic vibration transducers (i.e., absolute vibration measurements) and a shaft speed/phase reference measurement. By incorporating the preexisting machinery protection systems’ available measurement types into a routine vibration analysis program, technicians can determine specific fault types and machine condition based on signal amplitudes, frequency content and phase relationships between machine components. Additionally, these measurements can be acquired for machine commissioning purposes after mechanical repairs/inspections and utilized for machinery diagnostics with the use of multi-channel transient vibration analysis techniques.
Hansford Sensors, the leading global manufacturer of high performance industrial accelerometers, will be continuing its North American program of business development at Reliable Plant 2016. The company will be using the show to announce its newly formed US sales partner, Hansford Sensors USA, and to launch a number of exciting new products, designed to help plant and maintenance engineers improve the accuracy and reliability of vibration and condition monitoring systems.
Part 2 of this series on the components of a successful vibration program describes the skill sets and attitudes that are most appropriate for those who want to run successful vibration monitoring or condition monitoring (CM) programs.
Understanding the 10 components of a condition monitoring (CM) program is the first step in making them work to support you and your organization’s goals. The 10 main components comprising a condition monitoring program are shown in Figure 1. Each of the components relates to and affects all of the others. Like the supports of a structure, they all must be balanced for the structure to stand. This is the introduction to a 10-part series covering each of the 10 components of a successful program. A more in-depth handling of the subject matter can be found in the book, Audit It. Improve It! Getting the Most from Your Vibration Monitoring Program by Alan Friedman, available at the MRO-Zone Bookstore.
